More than half of the IPL 2022 season is already done, and we have seen many ups and downs till now. Just like every season, the world’s biggest cricket league has thrown up various surprises to the IPL fans.

Celebrated Sports analyst cum Business Transformation Expert Hirav Shah says, “During the starting of the season, hardly anyone gave Gujarat Titans a chance to compete against the top teams, but here they are now sitting on top in the points table and even won six out of their seven encounters.

Crazy teams like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are lying at the bottom of the points tally and struggling to bounce back. While the Mumbai Indians lost all their matches, the Chennai-based outfit has fared slightly better, winning two out of seven encounters.

Along with the struggles of the usual suspects like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, there has been no dearth of the edge-of-the-seat thrillers as teams like SunRisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants have put on a superb show so far, and entertained the fans to the fullest.”

Like every season this year also, some of the most expensive players have failed to justify their giant price tag, and Hirav Shah picks the list of five such players.

Rohit Sharma (Auction price: Rs 16 crore)

Mumbai Indians successfully brought their skipper Rohit Sharma as their first-choice pick by handing him a contract worth a staggering Rs 16 crore.

In reality, the right-handed batter hasn’t been able to give his side the kind of start they expected of him, which is one of the reasons why they are languishing at the bottom. Rohit has scored 153 runs in eight matches at a dismal average of 19.13 at a strike rate of 126.45.

Shardul Thakur ( Auction price Rs 10.75 crore)

Delhi Capitals locked Shardul Thakur for a whopping Rs 10.75 Cr in the mega auction, but the all-rounder has failed to justify his price tag.

Though Shardul did some magic with the bat, he completely failed with the ball as he has been a total disaster. The former CSK player has scored 80 runs and picked up four wickets, leaking 9.60 runs per over.

Virat Kohli ( Auction Price: Rs 15 crore)

With the captaincy burden off his shoulders, everyone had expected Virat Kohli to spit fire this season, but he has flopped big time. Reportedly, for the first time in his career, he got out for a golden duck in two successive innings, which pretty much sums up his season so far. In eight outings, Kohli’s willow has produced only 118 runs which is unexpected. But it seems that from May 7 onwards, he will start performing well.

Ishan Kishan ( Auction price of Rs 15.25 crore)

Ishan Kishan is the most expensive buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Though he started the season on a bang by scoring 81* In the opening match, his form has gone south since then.

After a series of low scores in the last few matches, his confidence has taken a huge hit, and he is not looking like the same batter anymore. In total, he has scored 199 runs in eight matches, the majority of which came in the first two games.

Ravindra Jadeja

(Auction Price, Rs 16 crore)

The star India all-rounder, who was handed the Chennai Super Kings leadership just a couple of days before their opening encounter, hasn’t found his rhythm yet.

With the added responsibility on his shoulders, Ravindra has lost his mojo in both bowling and batting. He has only picked five wickets and scored 91 runs in seven encounters.
