The much-awaited IPL auction for 2022 was over on February 14th. For the upcoming season, ten teams have finalized their team members. While Ishan Kishan emerged as the highest-earning player, players such as Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer are also bagged for some good deals. Considering the overseas playing experience, Liam Livingstone and Wanindu Hasaranga got huge deals, but the sad part is that a few Indian seniors like Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina, and Chesteshwar Pujara left unsold.

Which team has balanced the IPL auction 2022?

Veteran Sports Astrologer cum Business Transformation Expert Hirav Shah says, “Taking the recent IPL seasons into consideration, Delhi Capitals has been of the most consistent teams in terms of players selection. Continuing their good work, Delhi Capitals did the same at IPL 2020 auction and bagged some brilliant players. The team has retained four players Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Anrich Nortje. While Pant is the captain of the side, Shaw also has a good ten years ahead of him. Nortje and Axar solidify the pace and spin department. Despite trying hard to rope in Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer but they failed, but they signed some brilliant overseas recruits such as David Warner. If Warner and Shaw are sent as the opening batsman, they can burn any set on fire. Adding to it, to strengthen the lower order, they have added Rovman Powell. After scoring a century against England recently, the expectations on Powell are very high for his hit-hard performance.”

Hirav Shah adds, “Other interesting names such as Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, and Yash Dhull are also brought on board as the team members for Delhi Capitals. Coming to Dhull is coming on the back of a successful U-19 WC campaign; on the other hand, Mandeep and Sarfaraz are seasoned campaigners. Tim Seifert has been selected as a wicket-keeping backup in the side. So, apart from the big guns, the Delhi Capitals have some excellent fringe players in its kitty.”

Hirav Shah points out that choosing Mitch Marsh takes the balance of this side to another level. Marsh is undoubtedly the most utility player in the T20 format right now. He had an excellent season with the bat in BBL 11 as well, whereas he is a wicket-taking bowler. Marsh can cement his spot at the number three slot. While Axar Patel has been retained as he will bat at the number seven slot, the team has acquired the services of Shardul Thakur for a hefty price. Shardul’s batting has seen a meteoric rise, whereas he has been a consistent wicket-taker for the past few seasons.

Hirav Shah adds, “Not to forget, Lalit Yadav and Vicky Ostwal provide some brilliant Indian all-around backups for the side. Yadav has been a part of Delhi in the past, whereas Ostwal had a brilliant U-19 World Cup. The blend of youth and experience in the all-rounder department is a strength of the team. Anrich Nortje was retained by the side, and he has some quality partners for him now as Lungi Ngidi and Mustafiqur Rahman have been added to the side as his partners. Ngidi has been a part of Chennai Super Kings in the past, whereas Rahman was a part of the Rajasthan Royals in the last season. Management is confident that all three of them are wicket-takers. In terms of Indian pace bowling, they have roped in two left-arm seamers in Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya. Talented young player Kamlesh Nagarkoti is also picked as a safe side. Kuldeep Yadav has been bought at an excellent price by the Delhi Capitals. Though his performance in the last season is not up to the mark, the team believes that he is an international-level bowler. While Axar Patel is already in the ranks, they have two international spinners. Praveen Dubey is the wrist-spinner of the side. Although this team lacks a genuine off-spinner, they had Ashwin last season but lost him for Rajasthan Royals.”

Hirav Shah concludes by saying, “Other IPL teams such as Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants also had a decent auction too. However, Rajasthan lacks in the all-rounder department. The same is the scenario with Lucknow, as the team struggles to find a genuine middle-order batter for their combination. Coming to Punjab Kings, they have signed some top-class players, but they lack balance in their team and will need to adjust the position of their top-order batters. To conclude, The Delhi Capitals has the most balancing players and can be termed as the best IPL auction team.”
