Watching Bollywood movies, moviegoers have shaped their perspectives and expectations of our daily lives. Special note about the hero characters that have a significant impact on teenage youth as they expect them to behave in real life. This image of males in Bollywood cannot be reduced to a single term or a handful of words – it’s a roller coaster ride with many ups and downs.

Veteran Bollywood Analyst cum Business Transformation Expert Hirav Shah says, “Movies have always been our escape from the real world, with the irrevocable love, formidable friendships, and popcorn-worthy melodrama, giving us a fun time most of the time. We also know how much Bollywood movies have shaped our thinking and have made us the die-hard romantics that we are today. But, as we looked at all our favorite characters from rose-colored glasses, we failed to recognize that some of them were actually toxic! As much as we might admire them otherwise, we must call them out as woke citizens!”

Now, we bring you the list of Bollywood hero characters who happened to be toxic lovers.

1. Kabir Rajdheer Singh from “Kabir Singh”

Kabir Singh was released in 2019 and went on to become a huge blockbuster. Ranbir Singh’s character, portrayed by Shahid Kapoor, is well received by the audience.

The youth audience just fell in love with the hero character. The film is a remake of the 2017 Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who directed the original version, also directed the Hindi version also.

2. Maddy from “Rehna Hai Tere Dil Me”

Maddy is a romantic character that was designed to attract the youth. Maddy was a man who claimed to be someone else in order to trick the girl into falling in love with him.

R Madhavan’s acting and his attitude are a huge hit among the moviegoers in Rehna Hai Tere Dil Me.

3. Badrinath Bansal from “Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya”

Badrinath and Vaidehi characters in Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya are well-established characters among moviegoers.

The love drama between the lead pair, played by Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, is a major hit among the audience. Especially, Varun Dhawan’s role as Badrinath is a massive hit among the audience. Shashank Khaitan is the film’s director.

4. Kundan from “Raanjhana”

Kundan who is in mad love with Zoya for years and didn’t give up despite being vehemently rejected and smacked. Dhanush’s innocent, charming act turns an emotional one-sided lover is a major hit among the audience.

5. Radhe Mohan from “Tere Naam”

Bollywood star Salman Khan’s role as Radhe Mohan in Tere Naam displays toxic masculinity and celebrates stalking in Tere Naam. Like a rejected lover, Salman unwittingly converted millions of people into his ardent fans with the movie. Satish Kaushik is the film’s director.

Hirav Shah concludes by saying, “Are you Shocked? Mind Blown? Called It? Bollywood has a tendency to overlook possessive, stalkerish, and overall toxic male characters and label them ‘romantic.’ Not only is that unhealthy, but it also endorses abusive behavior. When you are in a position of power where you can influence a million viewers, would you still pick these men as the role models?”
