Laal Singh Chaddha – Remake of Forrest Gump

Laal Singh Chaddha starring Bollywood star Aamir Khan in the lead role is an official remake of Tom Hanks-starrer Hollywood film Forrest Gump. Aamir Khan has been working on the film for the past three years, and it is one of the most talked-about Bollywood remakes coming this year. Co-starring Kareena Kapoor as the female lead, Laal Singh Chaddha is being directed by Aamir Khan’s manager Advait Chandan. The film is gearing up for an August 11, 2022, release.

Jersey

Jersey featuring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur as the lead pair, had a theatrical release on April 22 after multiple postponements. The film is an official remake of the 2019 Telugu language sports drama with the same title. Gowtham Tinnanuri, who directed the original version, helmed the Hindi version as well.

The Intern

The Intern is an official remake of the Hollywood film with the same title. The Hindi remake was supposed to star Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor in the lead roles, but post-Rishi Kapoor’s demise, Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in for the role. We have to wait and see how the duo recreates the Piku magic on screen yet again.

Vikram Vedha

Vikram Vedha is a remake of the 2016 superhit Tamil film with the same title. In the original version, Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi did the titular roles. In 2018, the director duo Pushkar–Gayathri, who made the original film, announced that they would direct the Bollywood remake of the same title. Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan have been roped in for the project, and the first look of the film has generated quite a buzz. The film is gearing up for a September 30 release.

Selfiee – Remake of Driving License

Selfiee is an official remake for the 2019 comedy-drama, Driving Licence starring Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles. In the Hindi remake, Selfiee, Akshay Kumar, and Emraan Hashmi are playing the lead roles. Being directed by Raj Mehta, the shooting for Selfiee is underway at a fast pace. An interesting aspect is that Emraan Hashmi is back in the cinemas with Selfiee after a brief gap.

HIT

HIT is an official remake of the Telugu investigative drama of the same title from 2020 that stars Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma as the lead pair. Sailesh Kolanu, who directed the original version, is directing the remake version also. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra as the lead pair, the movie is currently in the pre-production stage. The release date for the film is yet to be announced.

Hindi remake of Anniyan

Ace director Shankar announced that he would be remaking his 2005 blockbuster Tamil film, Anniyan, in Hindi soon. While Vikram played the lead role in the original version, Ranveer Singh will be reprising him in the Hindi version. Jayantilal Gada is producing the Hindi version of Anniyan and is expected to go on the floors soon after Shankar wrapped up the shooting formalities for his ongoing film, RC15, with Ram Charan.

The remake of The Great Indian Kitchen

The original Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen, was about a newlywed woman who tries to fit into the conventional mold of a wife that society has prescribed for women. While the original version received both critical acclaim and a lot of love from people, Vicky Bahri announced that he was remaking the film in Hindi. The Hindi version of The Great Indian Kitchen features Sanya Malhotra and Harman Baweja in the lead roles.

Shehzada – Remake of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo

Shehzada is an official remake of the Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo that has Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde as the lead pair. Allu Arjun’s father, Allu Arvind, is bankrolling the Hindi version of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. The film stars Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon as the lead pair. Being directed by Rohit Dhawan, Shehzada is scheduled to release in November this year.

Bholaa – Remake of Kaithi

Bholaa is a remake of the Tamil film Kaithi, which has Karthik Sivakumar in the lead role. Ajay Devgn is playing the lead role in the Hindi version of Kaithi. Titled Bholaa in Hindi, the movie is about an ex-convict prisoner who struggles to meet his daughter. Tabu is playing the female lead role.

Mili – Remake of Helen

Mili is a remake of the Malayalam film Helen that revolves around a suburban girl who suddenly disappears. In the original version, Anna Ben did the titular role. After a Tamil remake, it is all set to be remade in Hindi and has Janhvi Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, and Sunny Kaushal in lead roles.

Hirav Shah says, “This week’s release Jersey flopped badly, and already there are people who are writing Shahid Kapoor off. This failure once again consolidates the war of OTT against theaters and how big screen watching is coming down with each passing minute. This factor once again proves that medium-scale high on content films are not attracting huge footfalls in theaters. In a way, post-pandemic, the audience is only willing to spend bucks on big-scale entertainers. This should be a sign of worry for the industry and makers, and they spent a lot of money on their projects. Looking at all this, the message from the audience is loud & clear. They want big films with larger-than-life characters like RRR, Baahubali, Gangubai, and KGF 2 on the big screens, and for remakes, there is OTT.
