Celebrated Bollywood analyst cum Business Transformation Expert Hirav Shah says, “Bollywood is a dream which many wannabes have in their eyes. A lot is kept at stake to make this dream come true. The ambition and drive to achieve stardom are so strong that at times even close relationships become distant once success is achieved.”
Shah adds, “Even Bollywood fans must be aware of all the relationships their favorite celebrities had or still have after they became famous. But do you also know who they dated before making it big in Bollywood?”
Le’s take a look at the list of stars they dated and dumped before attaining star status.
1) Ranbir Kapoor and Avantika
Yes, it’s true that actor Imran Khan’s estranged wife, Avantika Malik, was Ranbir Kapoor’s first crush. Back then, Ranbir even used to visit her on the sets of the popular serial, Just Mohabbat, in which she had worked as a child artist.
Later, due to reasons unknown, the two had parted ways, and soon after separating, Avantika had found love in Imran Khan. After 8-years of dating each other, they got married in January 2011. Later, the couple was blessed with a baby girl on June 9, 2014. And, the young parents had named their little angel Imara Malik Khan. But, for the unversed, Imran and Avantika are now separated due to some irreconcilable issues. Coming to Ranbir, the actor is soon reportedly going to tie the knot with his girlfriend, Alia Bhatt, after having bad dating experiences with actresses like Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif earlier.
2) Priyanka Chopra and Aseem Merchant
Before attaining star status, Priyanka Chopra used to date Aseem Merchant. Reportedly, Priyanka had dumped him after she became Miss World in 2014. Later, reports came out that Aseem had planned to take revenge on Priyanka by making a biopic on her titled 67 Days. Priyanka has also filed a legal notice in court against the making of the biopic.
Years later, Priyanka Chopra found her soulmate in the international pop singer Nick Jonas. After dating for a while, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra married in December 2018 at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Hindu and Christian weddings. Recently, the couple welcomed their first child through Surrogacy.
3) Alia Bhatt and Ali Dadarkar
During her earlier days, Alia Bhatt was often spotted at almost every film event with Siddharth Malhotra, her co-star from Student Of The Year. But later, Alia-Siddharth parted ways. Not many people know, long before her debut in Bollywood itself, she was dating Ali Dadarkar. Ali and Alia were childhood sweethearts as the two were together in school. A few years ago, there were reports that Alia is reportedly spending quality time with Ali after her breakup with Siddharth.
In 2014, Alia Bhatt had talked about her crush and now-boyfriend, Ranbir Kapoor, on Karan Johar’s famous chat show, Koffee With Karan. The actress recalled when she had talked to Ranbir for the first time and had also stated her willingness to marry her forever crush.
Alia Bhatt’s honest plea and prayers had made her meet the crush of her life, work together, and had made them fall in love with each other. Reportedly, Ranbir and Alia will be tying the knot this year itself.
4) Anushka Sharma and Zoheb Yusuf
Reports say that Anushka Sharma and Zoheb Yusuf started dating each other after meeting in Bangalore during their modeling days. The duo had come to Mumbai to try their luck in Bollywood. While Anushka got lucky as she had made her debut with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Zoheb headed back to Bangalore, which was the end of their affair. Later, in 2013, Anushka Sharma had met cricketer Virat Kohli for the first time during a TV commercial’s shoot. Eventually, they both got married in 2017, in Tuscany, Italy. It was an intimate Hindu wedding attended by the close family and friends of Virat and Anushka. In January 2021Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma welcomed their first child Vamika Kohli.
5) Aishwarya Rai and Rajeev Mulchandani
Currently, Aishwarya Rai is the lady of one of the most prestigious Bollywood families. Still, the fact is that before during her early modeling days, Aishwarya had dated a guy named Rajeev Mulchandani. But, reportedly, after venturing into Bollywood and getting close to Salman Khan, Aishwarya dumped Rajeev.
Later, after a series of alleged affairs, Aishwarya Rai had met her now-husband, Abhishek Bachchan, for the first time in Switzerland at a film shooting. After dating each other for some time, Aishwarya and Abhishek married in April 2007. Later, the couple is blessed with a baby girl.
6) Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Shroff
During her earlier days, Sonakshi Sinha was dating former Managing Director of Fame Cinemas, Aditya Shroff. They had dated for around two years before they had a major fight over a personal matter.
Later, Aditya Shroff had married television actress Megha Gupta, but they parted ways after four years of marriage. On the other hand, Sonakshi Sinha has repeatedly stated that marriage is not on the cards for her at the moment.
7) Deepika Padukone and Nihaar Panday
During her modeling days, Deepika had dated model and actor Nihaar Pandya for quite some time. The two had met at an acting school in Mumbai for the first time. They had also featured in two different songs of popular singer Himesh Reshammiya’s album, Aap Kaa Surroor. Reportedly, the duo was also in a live-in relationship before parted ways.
After breaking up with Deepika Padukone, Nihaar Pandya married popular singer Neeti Mohan in February 2019 at Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. Later, in 2021, Nihaar and Neeti had welcomed a baby boy into their lives.
8) Arjun Kapoor and Arpita Khan
Before entering Bollywood as an actor, Arjun Kapoor had dated Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita Khan. Arjun and Arpita had dated for around two years, after which she had broken up with him for some unknown reasons.
Later, Arpita Khan had met the son of a businessman, Anil Sharma, and actor Aayush Sharma through some common friends in 2013, and the two had started dating. The couple got married in November 2014 and is blessed with two adorable kids.
On the other hand, Arjun Kapoor has started dating Salman Khan’s brother’s ex-wife Malaika Arora. As per the Bollywood reports, the couple will tie the knot by this year-end.
