Rags To Riches

This is a snippet from the story of Sylvester Stallone’s life, from when he was at the lowest point in his life.
Born on July 6, 1946, in New York City, Sylvester Stallone rose to greatness with his performance in the Academy Award winning drama flick Rocky(1976), which he also wrote. A Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination for works that have drifted across movies like First Blood in 1982 to Creed in 2015, Stallone is one of the most revered, powerful and endeared action movie stars of all time. But, the climb up the ladder to where he is was far from what you would think would’ve been comfortable.

Like many actors, Stallone struggled at the beginning of his Hollywood career. But his struggles were way more than most. He was so broke that he became homeless, sold his wife’s jewellery and even sold his dog for $25 as he had no money to feed him anymore.

A few weeks after this tragic event, he saw a Mohammed Ali boxing match that inspired him to write Rocky. He was so inspired that he wrote the entire script in less than a day! Studios loved the script but didn’t love Sylvester Stallone’s one request — to be the main lead in the movie.

He was offered over $300,000 for the script but he still said no — despite being dead broke! He knew that this movie was his ticket to success. Then, after quite some time, a studio agreed to let him star and only gave him $35,000 for the script.

Stallone immediately went back to the place where he had sold his dog, waited long enough, and was finally able to buy or rather earn him back…. for $15,000! But it didn’t matter as Rocky went on to make History.

The film, made on a budget of just over $1 million, was a sleeper hit; it earned $225 million in global box office receipts, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1976. The film was critically acclaimed and solidified Stallone’s career as well as commenced his rise to prominence as a major movie star of that era. Among other accolades, it went on to receive ten Academy Award nominations, winning three, including Best Picture.

Stallone’s Bollywood Connection

Who can forget Stallone’s memorable cameo in Akshay Kumar’s 2009 film. When Amrita Arora and Kareena Kapoor put their safety in Aftab Shivdasani’s hands (great idea), a bunch of racially diverse goons come asking for trouble. They speak in vaguely dubbed accents and try to get handsy with the girls, and when they’ve done away with Aftab, it comes to Stallone to clean things up, and that’s when he delivers the eternal line, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’.
Now, don’t we want to see more of Stallone in Bollywood !
We do right !!

And today, the same Stallone who slept in the streets and sold his dog JUST BECAUSE he couldn’t even feed it anymore, is one of the GREATEST Movie Stars who ever walked the Earth!
