Developing a work team is a delicate but strategic phase for any project manager. The result of the project will really depend on the selections made here.

Celebrated Business Transformation Expert cum Astro Strategist Hirav Shah says, “First of all, it is good to remember that, in order to develop a high performing Project Team, it is important to follow three key steps:

Organizational planning is necessary for the identification of the team;
Staff acquisition, necessary for approval;
Team development.”

According to Hirav Shah, here are effective 6 Tips to enhance team performance in any project.

Tip 1 – Agree to Agree

The first blunder that teams make is disagreeing on their core goals. We adopt a strategy called Project Management, in which our teams write a project agreement before starting any project. We agree on the scope of our project, how we’ll communicate with one another, how frequently we’ll meet, the total risk we’ll jointly tolerate for our project, the limits we’re all aware of, and the responsibilities we’ll each play on the project. It is a decision to be pleasing (or, conversely, disagreeable). We utilize a project agreement form to make it easy for all of us to agree and document what we’re individually committing to.

Tip 2 – Focus on Customer Performance

You receive what you focus on. Focus on your external clients if you want to increase your consumer base. Internal and external clients are not the same. External consumers pay for your products and services and opt to utilize them. External customers generate revenue. They are the reason for your company’s existence. Internal customers, on the other hand, are a source of income. They are the internal barriers that stand in reaching the external customer as many of these hoops as feasible should be removed. Find out what your external consumers desire in one or two basic, straightforward ways. Then, make sure you can offer it to them again and over again. Showing up is 99% of the battle; make sure you show up with the items or services your revenue-generating consumers demand.

Tip 3 – Measure the Treasure

What is measured is carried out. Measurements direct your team’s focus on what matters most. Select them with care. Top-performing teams focus on outcomes rather than activities. DELIVER the top three results that your external customers seek. The project team AND the project sponsor (who many people confuse for a “customer”) write the customer requirements, customer acceptance criteria, and business case in the Project Management Project Agreement. Deliverables, not tasks, are the yardstick by which the team is judged. Top-performing teams are known for delivering outcomes rather than making excuses. If you measure tasks, you’ll receive results; you’ll have to measure results if you want results.

Tip 4 – The Platinum Rule

The Golden Rule states that you should treat people as you would like to be treated. Go for the gold – treat people as you would like to be treated. Our clients own the gold, and we learn how they like to be handled. Because there are no breaks in life, we must follow the platinum rule with each other if we desire platinum outcomes with our consumers.

Tip 5 – Brain on the Wall

Do you have any idea what’s on your teammates’ minds? Do you wish to learn more? We’ve discovered that when we work together, we’re a lot smarter than when we work alone. As a result, we do a game called “put your brain on the wall.” Instead of traditional brainstorming, we employ this method. Using traditional brainstorming, we’ve discovered that individuals are so concerned about their contribution that they don’t listen to their teammates as much as they should or that they are unwilling to submit ideas they don’t believe are good enough. Each member contributes separately on post-its with the brain on the wall. They framed their gift and hung it on the wall. They coordinate their combined input as a group. They read what each team member has spoken by sorting the input. They acquire a sense of where they agree and can expand on one another’s ideas.

Tip 6 – Conflict is Cash

What happens when what you anticipated does not occur? You could become irritated. When team members’ unspoken expectations aren’t satisfied, it’s common for conflict to arise. All conflict stems from a difference in expectations. Conflict provides a chance to better understand team members’ and consumers’ expectations. When a disagreement arises, we utilize it as a chance to better understand our own and our customers’ expectations. Emotionally charged circumstances are remembered by people. We acquire the confidence and respect of the individuals with whom we were in dispute when we change a negative situation into a positive one. We utilize conflict to gain a better knowledge of individual expectations, allowing our top performers to provide excellent customer service. Conflict is inescapable, so make the most of it when it arises.

Hirav Shah concludes by saying “It is essential to have a fully dedicated and developed project team in order to execute the project properly.

The team includes many people who need to work together to carry on the individual activities.

Organizations are committed to constantly forming increasingly performing project teams. Work teams that will be able to achieve even complex project goals will increase performance, productivity, and returns for the business organization.

Members of the Team, together with the project manager, are the driving forces for any project, and therefore it is essential to know how to select them well and to develop them to the optimum.
