About Mario Andretti:
Mario Andretti is a retired Italian American world champion racing driver, one of the most successful Americans in the history of the sport, who had 109 career wins on major circuits.
Early Life of Mario Andretti:
Mario Andretti was born to Alvise Andretti, a farm administrator, and his wife, Rina, in Montona, Istria (now Motovun, Croatia).
After finishing high school in 1959, Mario Andretti planned to become a welder, but he falsified a DL so he could pass for 21 and enter an amateur race. Mario and his twin brother never told their parents that they were racing. By the time, it was 1960 and 1961, Mario had 21 modified stock car wins in 46 races.
The rest as we say is “History”.
Achievements of Mario Andretti:
Andretti is the owner of numerous world records. Yes…he is one of only two drivers to have won races in Formula One, IndyCar, the World Sportscar Championship, and NASCAR. Not just this, he has also won races in midget car racing and sprint car racing.
His career can be called a “Golden Career” since he won the 1978 Formula One World Championship, four IndyCar titles (three under USAC sanctioning, and one in CART), and IROC VI.
And that’s not all. There is more…till today, Andretti is one and the only
driver ever, to win the Indianapolis 500 (1969), Daytona 500 (1967) and the Formula One World Championship, and along with Juan Pablo Montoya, the only driver to have won a race in the NASCAR Cup Series, Formula One, and an Indianapolis 500.
Andretti’s win at the 1978 Dutch Grand Prix is the last Formula One victory by an American driver, as of 2022.
Mario Andretti’s Relationship:
Mario Andretti stays with his grandson Marco in Bushkill Township, Pennsylvania. His late spouse Dee Ann was a native of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, who taught Andretti English in the early 60s. They got married on November 25, 1961. She passed away on July 2, 2018, following a heart attack.
