It is widely known that Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is making her digital debut with a show titled Lock UPP that has been making headlines from the day of the announcement. A couple of days back, Kangana unveiled the first teaser of the reality show. After watching the teaser, one thing is clear Kangana will be a no holds barred host, and she will even give it back to her haters. In the promotional video, Kangana enters the stage dressed in a black and silver gown with embellishments and says, “Iss duniya mein do type ke log hai. Ek jo mujhe pasand karte hai and dusre woh B-grade strugglers, jo meri burai karke news mein rehte hai English translation (There are two kinds of people in this world. One who like me and the other, the B-grade strugglers, who stay in news by putting me down).”
The actor then goes on to say that those haters tried to keep her mum by filing FIRs or using the ‘nepotism’ formula and made her life a 24X7 reality show. “But now it’s my turn as I am bringing the baap of the biggest reality show. This is my jail, with my rules, where 16 controversial celebrities will be locked in. And I will decide what happens to the celebrities,” the dialogue in Hindi by Kangana says.

Even during the launch of Lock Upp, Kangana Ranaut said that she wanted to do something exciting for a long while.
“I loved the concept, and Ekta had developed a brilliant show. This is why I said yes to it”. Ekta Kapoor also revealed that Kangana was the first choice for her as this show required an unabashed personality. The actor also revealed that, like most of her projects, she is very involved with Lock Upp. “I have already seen every contestant’s profile and want to know their history. It’s going to be an intense show,” she added.
Veteran Bollywood Astrologer cum Business Transformation Expert Hirav Shah says, “The never-seen-before fearless reality show ‘Lock Upp’ has already generated enough buzz and is making to headlines these days. The show will stream LIVE 24×7 but will also have an hour-long episode that will stream every day from 10pm-11pm for 72 days. As per sources, Lock Upp will challenge the contestants to survive in extreme conditions where they will have to win tasks to achieve basic necessities.”

Munawar Faruqui
The stand-up comedian had to spend a month in jail at Indore in January 2021 when a BJP MLA’s son accused him of hurting religious sentiments in one of his stand-up shows. Later in November, Bengaluru Police denied permission to his stand-up comedy show in the city amid protests by Hindu right-wing outfits.
Sunil Pal
Comedian Sunil has been paired with Munawar. Sunil has appeared on many laughter reality shows and acted in many films as well.
Chakrapani
Known as Chakrapani Maharaj, he was in the news for his ‘gomutra party’ during the initial days of the coronavirus pandemic.
Saisha Shinde
Designer Saisha Shinde came out as a transwoman early in 2021. She was previously Swapnil Shinde. Over the past year, she has often opened up in various social media posts as well as interviews about her struggles. Saisha was paired with Chakrapani.
Poonam Pandey
Poonam made her film debut with Nasha in 2013. Soon after she got married to her long-term boyfriend Sam Bombay on September 1, 2020, she filed a complaint against him, accusing him of molestation, threats, and assault on her. He was arrested later that month. Later, she was also arrested in a porn racket case.
Babita Phogat
Perhaps one of the least controversial contestants is wrestler Babita Phogat. After bagging the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the women’s freestyle 55 kg category, she first appeared in the dance reality show Nach Baliye 9 with her now-husband Vivek Suhag. She was paired with Poonam.
Sara Khan
Actor Sara Khan will also be seen on the show. She earlier participated in Bigg Boss 4 and married Ali Merchant on the show. However, they got divorced within a few months.
Sidharth Sharma
Siddharth featured in reality shows like Big F and Splitsvilla. He has also essayed the role of Ranbir Chowdhary in ALT Balaji’s web series Puncch Beat.
Shivam Sharma
Shivam was also a participant in Splitsvilla.
Anjali Arora
Anjali is a social media influencer.
Nisha Rawal
Most recently seen on Shaadi Mubarak, Nisha filed a police complaint against her then-husband, actor Karan Mehra, accusing him of physical assault and an extramarital affair. Karan denied the allegations and claimed that she staged her injuries because he refused to give her the alimony amount.
Tehseen Poonawala
Lock Upp is not the first screen appearance for lawyer and activist Tehseen. Earlier, he participated in Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 13.
Payal Rohatgi
Former Bigg Boss contestant Payal Rohatgi has worked in a few films and TV shows. She has often been in the news for her controversial statements.
Kaaranvir Bohra
Kaaranvir Bohra rose to fame with Kasautii Zindagii Kay and was recently seen in Naagin, alongside Surbhi Jyoti, Pearl V Puri, and Anita Hassanandani. Karanvir was also a participant in the reality show Bigg Boss 12.
Reportedly, the format of Lock Upp will see 16 contestants being locked inside jail cells for 72 days, while Kangana will be the host. With the power of 50 percent votes, the actor will also be seen making decisions on who stays in the show. The makers have promised that Lock Upp will be ‘controversial,’ and they are even expecting many FIRs. Lock Upp is gearing up to stream on ALTBalaji and MX Player from February 27.
Hirav Shah says, “As it is, staying in the Bigg Boss house is difficult, but this is fearful. This is like a lock-up. The contestants will always be in a dilemma because here, you have to earn everything. Beds are like beds in jail; the kitchen is shut, there are kitchen tasks, and it will open accordingly, we will see what they will eat, what they will be deprived of. Bathrooms are like the ones you find in jail, where you wash clothes on the floor. You will have to fight and earn the luxuries of kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. For instance, you have to earn shower curtains or even the door to the bathroom. There is also a task for a luxury pillow. The corridor is entirely a jail, but there are areas that will unfold later on. It is kept a secret. The secret will get disclosed gradually. I have brought the elements of eeriness and cragginess to the set. It is definitely going to be a strenuous stay for the contestants. From season two and third, Lock Upp can be a good gradual bigger show but I think there should not be any comparison between any shows. We will have to wait and see if Kangana Ranaut’s Lock Upp surpasses Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss in popularity.“
