If you look back at some of your decisions, what comes to your mind…weren’t those terrible as in some of them.

What were you pondering!!

Well, looks like you weren’t thinking. You weren’t pondering. You weren’t pondering.

Instead, you acted on immediate emotion, correct !

Instead, you acted without any damn logic, right !

Explanation

American Nobel Laureate scientist Herbert Simon had quoted -“In order to have anything like a complete theory of human rationality, we have to understand what role emotion plays in it.

Which means, the outcome of many decisions we are confronted with in a day, is influenced or skewed or sometimes totally determined by emotions.

Whether you were seeing a good-looking person who treated you badly, or you wasted a hell lot of funds on a really terrible investment, your feelings can lead you astray if you’re not mindful. The intensity of your emotions is directly proportional to your judgment. As your emotions grow more intense, your judgments will grow more clouded as well.

For example, has it ever occurred to you why bright lights and loud noises are being used at the casinos. There is a reason. They want you to be excited. Super excited. Super excitement can and will make you overestimate your chances of success.

“The more you are excited, the more likely you’ll be splurging large amounts of money”-Tells Hirav Shah, India’s Premier Business Transformation Leader.

Fact of the matter is that, when you feel really excited about anything, you are more likely to underestimate a risk or a possible trouble or a hazard. Be it taking out a large loan for a magnificent opportunity, or you’re betting all of your money on a promising horse, you’ll be more likely to belittle and undervalue your risk, when you’re feeling excited. Get that !!

Hirav Shah’s Mantra On Emotions & Decisions

Never ever make a permanent decision over an emotion that may be temporary. Never ever. You see, emotions are temporary. They come and they go. When we are attached to them, they become ours. You know, we become slaves to these emotions. That’s when they own us.

But in maximum cases, there may be a bad emotion you have experienced. Don’t make a permanent decision over a temporary emotion. The quality of your life has been the quality of your decisions.

What you want to do is “Step Back, Wait for a while, time can change a lot of things. And if you still want to make a permanent decision, just go for it…go ahead and do it. The catch is not to do it, immediately when the emotion happens. The key is not to do it, right when the emotion explodes. Because emotions change. Indeed, they do. Wait for a while. And, in that pause, please reflect. Take your time and then make the decision.
