Rahul Sharad Dravid ( born 11 January 1973) is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian national team.

He is the Director of Cricket Operations at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, India. He also monitors the progress of India A and India under-19 cricket teams. Before this he was Head Coach for the India Under-19 and India A teams from 2016 to 2019. In 2019, BCCI appointed Dravid as Head of NCA. Dravid’s Stint As India U-19 Head Coach
Under Rahul Dravid’s coaching, the under-19 team was runners up at 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup and were winners at 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup.
Rahul Dravid was instrumental in the Under-19 team’s World Cup victory. He being a batting legend himself , had committed himself to the ‘boys in blue’ and finally with his and team’s efforts, the Under -19 team lifted the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy in New Zealand. There is absolute unanimity in Indian cricket fraternity that the presence of Dravid as coach of the India U-19 team has been the main guiding force behind Indian colts’ journey towards becoming champions for the fourth time. Indeed, there was the unmistakable stamp of Dravid on the team, both collectively and individually.
In an interview, former legendary Indian Bowler Venkatesh Prasad had mentioned the role Dravid played in shaping the young team. Venkatesh said- “I think the boys were extremely fortunate to have Rahul Dravid as coach by their side. One gets to learn a lot, and more importantly become better players in future.”
Special Qualities Of Dravid As The Head Coach
Dravid gave up a lucrative contract with IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils to take up the job of the coach of the Under-19 . There aren’t many in Indian cricket who would choose working on future of Indian cricket over an IPL job, still Rahul Dravid chose being an Under-19 coach – Says Hirav Shah, India’s famed Astro-Strategist, who has himself been a State and National Level Player in Volleyball and Chess himself.

State, individual coaches have acknowledged the influence of Indian Under-19 coach, legendary Rahul Dravid on their wards. Shubman Gill, who scored a match winning century in the semi-final against Pakistan, mentioned how he stuck to Dravid’s advice of playing all the shots along the ground which helped him to score 102 in the match.

Dravid’s connection with the youngsters was evident from the manner in which the boys photobombed him while he was being interviewed post the final match.
Even during these moments of delirious celebrations, Dravid’s words of caution rang loud.
Ahead of the semi-final against Pakistan many of the U-19 players were glued to the internet and WhatsApp on the IPL auction. A few of them like Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw went for big bucks to various franchisees. Dravid then got them to switch off their phones for the next few days to focus on the job at hand—winning the next match. The boys didn’t disappoint him as they crushed Pakistan to continue their march to the finals.The World Cup win not only defined them but also the players went on for bigger and better things.
